STAR Events
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are FCCLA's premier competitive events program, giving members the opportunity to develop leadership, career, and life skills while showcasing their talents through competition and project-based learning.
STAR Events
Competitive Events are one of the most exciting and rewarding opportunities available to Utah FCCLA members. Through participation in competitive events, students apply the knowledge and skills gained through Family and Consumer Sciences education while developing leadership, communication, problem-solving, and career-ready skills.
Utah FCCLA members may participate in more than 50 competitive events covering a wide variety of career pathways and personal interests. Events allow students to explore careers, demonstrate technical skills, showcase creativity, and gain valuable experience that prepares them for future education and employment opportunities.
Competition begins at the regional and state levels, with top-performing members earning the opportunity to represent Utah FCCLA at the National Leadership Conference. Through this progression, students gain confidence, strengthen presentation skills, and develop real-world experience while competing alongside members from across the state and nation.
Competitive Events support FCCLA's mission of helping students become leaders in their families, careers, and communities. Each event is designed to encourage personal growth, critical thinking, collaboration, and career exploration while helping members discover their strengths and interests.
Whether competing individually or as part of a team, every participant has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. FCCLA believes that all members can benefit from the competitive event experience and develop skills that will serve them long after high school graduation.
COMPETITION LEVELS
Competitive Events are divided into levels based on a member's grade level and, in some cases, enrollment in a specific course or program.
Level 1: Members through Grade 8
Level 2: Grades 9–10
Level 3: Grades 11–12
Level 4: Postsecondary Members
A participant's competition level is determined by their grade level during the school year preceding the National Leadership Conference.Column one content.
Individual & Team Events
FCCLA offers both individual and team competitive events.
Individual Events evaluate the performance of a single member and allow participants to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and creativity independently.
Team Events allow members to collaborate and compete together while developing teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. Most team events consist of one to three members from the same chapter, while some events may have different team size requirements.
For team events that include members from multiple grade levels, teams compete at the level of the highest-grade participant.
