Region 2 Information
Hi Region 2 Advisers,
Wow this week has definitely thrown a few new CVOID challenges our way. Here are to name a few: 15 schools in our region being placed on the test to stay list, BYU announcing their vaccination or negative test procedures, over ten schools entering some variation of online school for various days, increased substitute shortages, and difficulty finding judges. Because of these challenges we knew this year might need to look different than what we have done in the past. This last week we have met multiple times as a Utah FCCLA board and talked to district CTE coordinators and Administrators trying to come up with not only a plan B but also a plan C, D, and by now maybe all the way to G.
With every school/ district in a different place, and no telling where we will be in just two short weeks we have decided that the best way to hold an in person conference this year would be to let districts and if needs be schools host their own.
What this will look like:
This conference will be a hybrid between virtual conferences and in-person with the location being way closer to home. Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry STAR events will still take place in person at Riverton High School on February 1st. However, all other STAR events will be evaluated in person on either a District or if needs be a School level during a number of days.
Here is a general Calendar with new dates and procedures.
January 21st
Email commitment for any chapters who will have students competing in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry
January 25th
Registration Due for all STAR events
January 27th at midnight
Late Registration Due for all STAR events

Feb 2nd-4th

Feb 4th

February 11th

State Conference
Ribbons will be passed out at our Region meeting.
We know that this is not ideal and that your students may be disappointed to not be together at BYU. We have considered this, however, based on our current day by day COVID situation, our quickly approaching conference, and rising numbers we feel this plan allows chapters more autonomy in how and when your students present their STAR events. The CTE coordinators I talked to also felt this would assist with the substitute, evaluators, and bus shortages we have been experiencing, as well as more freedom to follow their own COVID procedures and school expectations. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email or call me. As mentioned earlier CTE coordinators for the district have been brought in on this and may have already started creating plans to facilitate this in your district.
